LEGACY COURT
As part of the revitalization program for the Tay Basin property, a segment of the area, to be known as Legacy Court, has been set aside to become a living history area for Perth families and businesses. When construction is completed by the early part of 2006, Legacy Court will become one of several intriguing centrepieces in Heritage Perth.
Legacy Court will consist of 27,000 square feet of patterned paving stones which will ultimately form an attractive apron around the Crystal Palace, directing pedestrian traffic to and through the Tay Turning Basin. Tastefully spaced throughout this paved area will be inset granite stones bearing the engraved names of Perth families and businesses who have supported the Tay Turning Basin project, and view themselves as part of the past, present and future of Perth.

Each new sponsor's name will be cast in stone and placed within the paving stones of Legacy Court. A maximum 750-word informational background about the sponsor's family or business will be entered in a heritage database which can then be accessed through the official Town of Perth website. Eventually, it is anticipated that the same information will available at kiosks located in the Crystal Palace. Thereafter, anyone visiting Legacy Court will be able to use the kiosk to locate a sponsor's stone, and gather some information on that sponsor's part in Perth's history.
To help support this unique Perth initiative, families can purchase a granite stone measuring 6" by 12" for $500, which will then be inserted among the new pavers arranged around the Crystal Palace. Please note that your $500 sponsorship will allow the committee to access an additional $1250 from the grant program. Each sponsor will be asked to provide a brief history of their family in Perth or surrounding area to be included in the Town of Perth website database. As your family circumstances change, you will be able to update your family history.
To become a part of this legacy and add your contribution to the heritage of Perth, it is a simple matter of selecting and purchasing the appropriate size of stone(s) most suitable for your family or business. For more information, contact Community Services at 267-3311. The purchase of a family stone would make a great gift for any occasion. Please see the contribution form.
For Posterity
In the future, visitors to the Town of Perth who wish to research past family connections and histories will find Legacy Court an ideal place to begin their search as they walk leisurely through the attractive surroundings of Legacy Court. Beyond this resource, researchers will have easy access to "The Old Burying Ground" located next to Last Duel Park along the Tay River Trail, local church cemeteries, and the Perth & District Library, located conveniently next to the Tay Turning Basin and Crystal Palace.
