PERTH POLICE SERVICE

Perth Police Service is a strong and proud part of our community that responds to approximately 6000 calls for service per year. The organization is lead by Chief Pat Capello through the deployment of 14 uniform officers, 4 auxiliary members, 8 communicators, and 3 special constables.  The Service is a relatively small organization that continues to meet adequacy standards as dictated by the Province by focusing on dependable and consistent service, professional development of the members and crime prevention initiatives.  The service also shares resources with Lanark County OPP.

With 4 marked cruisers, 2 unmarked cruisers, 2 bicycles, and a strong emphasis on foot patrol, the service is ever present in the community. Officers receive specialized training in a number of areas of policing. Some examples are Criminal Investigations, Sexual Assaults, Major Case Managements, Police Administration, Drug Investigations and Scenes of Crime Forensic Identification to name a few. In addition, every front line uniform member has received the "Immediate Rapid Deployment Training" in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police.

All officers participate in programs such as R.I.D.E, VEP, STEP and every officer is assigned to one of the five schools in the Town to conduct specific educational programs. Operational equipment includes the use of the Intoxilyzer 5000C breath instrument, laser radar and notebook computers.

Communicators are kept busy answering 9-1-1 calls for our community while dispatching Police and Fire calls within the Town.

The Town of Perth provides 9-1-1 services to its citizens through the “Central Emergency Reporting Bureau" within the police facility at 1881 Rogers Road.

The fully redundant system provides “enhanced information” to 8 professionally trained police communicators who work under the direction of the Chief of Police. The Centre in Perth has the responsibility of dispatching the Town's fire department, answering 9-1-1 calls for the Town of Perth while dispatching and providing support services to the Perth Police.

The “Central Emergency Report Bureau “(C.E.R.B.) is formatted to receive police, fire and ambulance 9-1-1 calls directly from the households in the Town of PerthOn a monthly basis, dispatchers receive an average of 100 9-1-1 calls, 1,100 administration inquiries, while dispatching and managing approximately 80 fire incidents.

The equipment in the Communication Centre is divided equally in two separate work stations utilizing independent records management and mapping software packages   to simultaneously respond to police and fire requirements. The back up communication centre in Smiths Falls is equipped with an exact duplicate system to ensure immediate and seamless transition in the event that an interruption in service occurs. The on site equipment in Perth is supported by independent uninterrupted power supply units and a 600 volt diesel generator.

This is a modern facility with excellent technical and human resources that provides the critical and often life saving link to the citizens of our town and surrounding communities.

Perth Police Service prides itself on recruiting and developing local people who bring depth, history and a sense of ownership to the vocation of policing.  We are a "Community Based Institution" dedicated to preserving Heritage Perth as a very special place in eastern Ontario.
